The beginnings: the Schulze Pollmann factory

Our story in the world of the piano begins in the late 1950s, right inside Bolzano’s piano factory, Schulze Pollmann (later moved to Pineta di Laives, a few kilometres south of the city). It was there that Mr Saccuman learned the craft in every stage — from cabinet-making to the keys, right through to the mechanics itself, the heart of the piano — holding various roles over more than 15 years.

From the factory to restoration: choosing not to build, but to bring back to life

After more than fifteen years in the factory, Mr Saccuman decided to start his own business, together with Mr Favretto. It wasn’t an easy time to do it: no computers, slow travel, and antique pianos were hard to source. Their calling wasn’t to build pianos from scratch, but to bring antique instruments back to life — instruments that could still make pianists dream — sought out in Germany, France and England, and brought to the Via Alessandria workshop in Bolzano, where the real work began: complete restoration.

1978: Saccuman is born

1978 is the year we count as the start of the company under this name — the beginning of a journey that today, nearly half a century later, has reached its third generation.

The market shift: from restoration to new instruments and rental

Over time, demand for antique pianos to restore declined, in favour of new instruments with a more modern cabinet. It was in this period that a new form of piano ownership was born — rental — and Saccuman adapted to the change, starting to offer new pianos from various brands, including for rent.

2014: the first Fender Premium Center in South Tyrol

In 2014 came a bet outside the world of the piano: bringing to Bolzano the province’s first Fender Premium Center, at the historic Via Alessandria premises — not a simple guitar department, but a space designed specifically to be experienced, with sound-absorbing walls and dedicated lighting.

2015: the new Piano Showroom

In June 2015 we opened the new Piano Showroom in Piazza don Bosco 8/A: spacious and bright, designed for acoustic quality (panels and curtains to even out sound diffusion, climate control to maintain the right humidity) and natural light, with curtains that lower automatically to protect the instruments during the strongest sunlight hours.

Heilmann and C.Bechstein: two accolades that speak of decades of work

We become official Heilmann distributors for Trentino-Alto Adige, and in 2018 comes the most important recognition of our history with the great German brands: Saccuman becomes the official C. Bechstein centre for the Triveneto region — a brand that selects its centres with the same rigour with which it builds its instruments.

Today: the third generation

Today Saccuman still restores pianos, accompanies those approaching the study of music for the first time and those taking the stage with a concert grand — with the help of the children, who are learning a craft passed down from generation to generation.
