About us

For 48 years, Saccuman in Bolzano has been a trusted name in pianos and guitars across Trentino-Alto Adige.

We are official dealers for 14 piano brands: from Japan's Yamaha and Kawai to great European names such as C.Bechstein, Schimmel, Grotrian-Steinweg, Sauter and Petrof, all the way to Fazioli, our latest addition. We are the official C.Bechstein centre for the Triveneto region, the only official Schimmel centre and the official Fazioli dealer for Trentino-Alto Adige, and Heilmann distributors for Italy.

Today Saccuman has two locations in Bolzano. Our historic premises in Via Alessandria bring together display area, offices and workshop, and house, in a dedicated area, our Fender Premium Center with more than 200 guitars and amplifiers. The piano showroom in Piazza don Bosco has grown once again, doubling its display area: it now welcomes more than 120 grand, upright and digital pianos, to try at your own pace before choosing. A dedicated warehouse for instrument storage completes the picture.

Sales, rental, restoration, tuning, transport and concert service: we look after private clients, schools, conservatories and theatres across the region.

Our history

The beginnings: the Schulze Pollmann factory

Our story in the world of the piano begins in the late 1950s, right inside Bolzano’s piano factory, Schulze Pollmann (later moved to Pineta di Laives, a few kilometres south of the city). It was there that Matteo Saccuman learned every stage of the craft — from cabinet-making to the keys, right through to the action, the heart of the piano — holding various roles over more than 15 years.

From the factory to restoration: a garage where the magic began

After more than fifteen years in the factory, Matteo Saccuman decided to go into business for himself. At his side was a young and passionate man, Claudio Favretto, his wife’s brother. Their first premises were not a shop but a garage: that is where the magic began. It wasn’t an easy time to start out: no computers, slow transport, and antique pianos were hard to find. Their calling wasn’t to build pianos from scratch, but to bring antique instruments back to life — instruments that could still make pianists dream — sought out in Germany, France and England and brought all the way to Bolzano, where the real work began: complete restoration.

1978: Saccuman & Co. is born

In 1978 Matteo and Claudio took the decisive step and founded Saccuman & Co. as equal partners. It is the year from which we count the company’s history — the beginning of a journey that today, nearly half a century later, has reached its third generation.

The market shift: new pianos alongside restoration

Restoration never stopped being in demand. Over the years, however, requests for new pianos grew, and the people looking for them wanted the same professionalism that Saccuman put into every restored instrument. So, alongside antique pianos brought back to life, new pianos from various brands arrived in the shop.

Mid-1980s: rental and concerts

In the mid-1980s two services were born that are still among the pillars of the company today: rental, designed for those who are starting to play and want a good piano without having to buy one straight away, and the concert service, which brings our pianos to stages and concert halls.

Early 1990s: the family carries the work forward

In the early 1990s Matteo Saccuman passed away. The business did not stop: Claudio Favretto and his wife Giulietta Mion carried it forward, and the young Daniele Saccuman, Matteo’s son, joined the company to continue his father’s work.

2010: Riccardo joins

In 2010 Riccardo, the son of Claudio and Giulietta, also joined the company: another generation working alongside those who built Saccuman day after day.

2014: the first Fender Premium Center in South Tyrol

In 2014 came a bet outside the world of the piano: bringing to Bolzano the province’s first Fender Premium Center, at the historic Via Alessandria premises — not a simple guitar department, but a space designed specifically to be experienced, with sound-absorbing walls and dedicated lighting.

2015: the new Piano Showroom

In June 2015 we opened the new Piano Showroom in Piazza don Bosco 8/A: spacious and bright, designed for acoustic quality (panels and curtains to even out sound diffusion, climate control to maintain the right humidity) and natural light, with curtains that lower automatically to protect the instruments during the strongest sunlight hours.

Heilmann and C.Bechstein: two accolades that speak of decades of work

Official Heilmann distributors for Italy for more than thirty years, in 2018 we received the most important recognition of our history with the great German brands: Saccuman became the official C. Bechstein centre for the Triveneto region — a brand that selects its centres with the same rigour with which it builds its instruments.

2023: a difficult year

In 2023 Claudio passed away after a serious illness. By a cruel twist of fate, Giulietta, also struck by a serious illness, was forced to step away from the company. The business was carried forward by Riccardo: having grown up in the company since childhood, with 13 years there full-time and by now an expert in the field, he continues the family’s work, supported by a team of skilled collaborators.

2024: Schimmel, the only official centre in Trentino-Alto Adige

In 2024 another historic name in German piano making joined Saccuman: Schimmel. We became the only official Schimmel centre for Trentino-Alto Adige.

Today: the third generation

Today Saccuman still restores pianos, supports those taking up music for the first time and those taking the stage with a concert grand. The company is led by Riccardo, son of Claudio and Giulietta, who passionately carries on a craft handed down from generation to generation, together with a team of experienced collaborators.
